Sabrosa in Time...
-
The territories that make up the current administrative boundaries of the municipality of Sabrosa, Douro, contain in themselves a vast and unique heritage. It is a territory that had human occupation even during recent prehistory, this is witness to the various megalithic monuments to the north and south of the county. During the age of metals, that is, the so-called Bronze Age and the Iron Age are equally relevant evidence. Noteworthy is the castro of Sabrosa, the castro of S. Martinho and the Castro de Provesende. Romanization was also felt, especially in the structuring of Roman roads and in the occupation of previously occupied places such as Castro de Sabrosa.
During the Middle Ages the territory of Sabrosa retained its relevance. This is a striking proof of the various buildings, documents and monuments still present within the county. Already with the advent of modernity and, above all, with the culture of the vineyard and, already in the twentieth century, mining, Sabrosa has a wide range of very relevant evidence.
